After all the high-octane action over the last eight weeks, now two teams are on the doorstep of history. Both Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are the worthy contenders to play this year’s IPL final as they have been the two best teams of the tournament. For Mumbai Indians, it is their opportunity to continue their legacy. And for Delhi Capitals, it is their chance to end their barren run in the league. Hence, it will be a nail-biting contest between them, and they will be fuelled further to win one of the most prestigious T20 titles going around.

Winning an IPL trophy has now become a dream for every cricketer, not only for Indian cricketers but also for the overseas stars who participate in the league. However, such has been the competition that there are players who have played 150 games in the league but are yet to lay their hands on the trophy. On the other hand, some players have held the trophy above their heads in a handful of games. These players should consider themselves extremely lucky.

In the early years of IPL, the aura of Chennai Super Kings was something else. It can be best explained from their hat-trick of title wins a decade ago. First, they won their maiden IPL title in 2010 and then quickly followed it up with the Champions League T20 triumph later in that year. To add to that double whammy, the team then successfully defended their IPL championship in the 2011 edition.

In simple terms, during that period, CSK had match-winners throughout their playing XI. And such was the balance of the side that they couldn’t fit in a good domestic player like Anirudha Srikkanth. The right-hander only got opportunities when some of their regular players were rested. Even then, he was used as a floater in most of his outings.

Anirudha was part of the CSK squad for almost seven seasons. Still, he donned the Yellow jersey only 20 times. Luckily for him, he played one of the biggest games of his career when Chennai included him in the playing XI in the 2010 IPL final. Though he only scored 6 runs in that game, he can look back and say that he has achieved something that some of the greatest T20 players are yet to do, i.e, winning an IPL trophy.
