With 2022 being the mega auction year, the IPL franchisees were only allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players. This forced the them to release some of their top star players. The IPL model is such, we often see players shifting from one franchisee to another. This provides an opportunity for the player to prove his quality in different colours.

Prominent names such as Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan, Marcus Stoinis, Shardul Thakur, Liam Livingstone, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul among others had to leave their teams from 2021 and play for different teams this season. Some of these players ended up giving match-winning performances against their former teams this season. It must have certainly compelled the franchises to doubt their retention and buying decision. Let’s take a look at 5 players who performed well against their team from previous season:

We begin our list with English all-rounder Chris Jordan. In the 11th  match of the season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium. Asked to bat first by CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja, Punjab posted an excellent total of 180 runs. Liam Livingstone was the highlight of Punjab batting, scoring 60 off 32 balls, including five boundaries and sixes each.

With all the Chennai bowlers going for runs around the park, Chris Jordan stood out against his former franchise. The veteran all-rounder bowled exceptionally well, returning 2/23 in his four overs. He was crucial to restrict Punjab to 180, else the total would have been a lot higher. He scalped both their finishers- Shahrukh Khan and Odean Smith to restrict Punjab below 200.

Since his debut in 2016, Jordan has taken 27 wickets in as many IPL games. The 33-year-old cricketer has represented multiple franchisees which include Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and lastly Punjab Kings. Jordan is yet to perform to his potential in the T20 league and will hope to put up a better show in the Super Kings colours.
