5 Players who played for India recently but have been forgotten now

Team India is getting ready for the all-important 2022 T20 Asia Cup. The Men in Blue have already announced a strong-looking squad and they will back themselves to win the competition. Star batter Virat Kohli is set to make his return to the Indian squad and will want to put on a good show with the bat. Apart from Kohli, the team management has also included the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan, and Arshdeep Singh among others who have remained a part of the Indian squad and performed consistently for the Men in Blue. However, there are a few players who had represented India recently, but they have been sidelined from the national squad. In this article, we will talk about five such players. Venkatesh Iyer Venkatesh Iyer (Photo source: Twitter) On the back of some excellent performances for the two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer made his debut for team India against New Zealand in November 2021. The left-handed batter also made his ODI debut against South Africa in January this year. Despite representing India in both white-ball formats, Venkatesh is now nowhere to be seen in the Indian squad. While he played his last ODI match against Africa in the same series he made his debut, Venkatesh played his last T20I against Sri Lanka in February 2022 but got dropped from the team soon after. Talking about his numbers in the T20I format, the 27-year-old has represented India in nine matches and has scored 133 runs at an average of 33.25 with his strike rate being above 160. He has also scalped a total of five wickets in the 20-over format. In ODI, he has played two matches and scored 24 runs. 4. Rahul Chahar Rahul Chahar. (Photo Source: Twitter/BCCI) After being one of the prominent members of the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), leg-spinner Rahul Chahar finally got a chance to represent India at the highest level. The 23-year-old made his debut against West Indies in 2019 and has bowled decently for the Men in Blue. Rahul played his last T20I game against Namibia in the 2021 T20 World Cup, but he could not perform well in the match and went wicketless. Chahar has also represented India in one ODI match against Sri Lanka in July 2021 as he scalped three wickets in the match. The leg-spinner has performed decently for the Men in Blue but the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Axar Patel have made it tough for the bowler to remain in the Indian line-up. Chahar has scalped seven wickets in his six outings for the Men in Blue. 3. Varun Chakravarthy Varun Chakravarthy. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Just like Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy was also named in the Indian squad after his good performances for KKR in the IPL. The mystery spinner made his debut for the Men in Blue against Sri Lanka in 2021 and performed decently. Varun was also named in the Indian squad for the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, the 30-year-old had a tournament to forget and he was also bashed by the Pakistani opening duo of Mohammad Rizwan and skipper Babar Azam. Varun made his last international appearance against Scotland in the T20 World Cup as he went wicketless in that match. Varun has represented India in six matches but could only manage to scalp two wickets. However, he bowled at an economy of 5.86. The right-arm spinner will want to do well in the domestic circuit and get back into the Indian squad at any cost. 2. T Natarajan T Natarajan. The left-arm seamer made his international debut against Australia in 2020 and performed decently. He also made his T20 debut during the same tour and impressed everyone with his death bowling abilities. The left-arm seamer represented India last in 2021 in an ODI match against England as he bowled well in the series, but had to stay out of the action due to an injury again. Natarajan played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2022 and was bowling brilliantly in the tournament, but he again got injured during the ending stages of the tournament. Talking about his numbers in the international arena, Natarajan has played four T20Is, two ODIs, and one Test match for India and has taken a total of 13 wickets including all three formats of the game. 1. Chetan Sakariya Chetan Sakariya. (Photo Source: Twitter) Another left-arm seamer on the list is Chetan Sakariya. After performing well in the IPL 2021, Sakariya was named in the Indian team to tour Sri Lanka. At first, Sakariya made his ODI debut against the home team and scalped one wicket in that. He was dropped for the second encounter. Similarly, Sakariya made his T20I debut during that tour and played two matches. The left-arm seamer has only managed to scalp one wicket in his two outings and has been a touch expensive as well giving runs at an economy of 9+ runs in an over. The left-arm pacer was seen in IPL 2022 as he represented Delhi Capitals (DC) in the tournament. He played his last IPL match against his former franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) and scalped two crucial wickets for his side in his four-over quota and gave away just 23 runs.
