5 players who took salary cuts during the IPL 2022 retentions
1. Delhi Capitals – Prithvi Shaw – 0.5 Cr cut
Delhi Capitals has unarguably been the team that had one of the greatest turnarounds over the last couple of years. A change of name literally brought change to their fortunes as they managed to seal the playoffs spot each time since 2018. A fine blend of experience along with a fresh infusion of youngsters made this team stand out and battle under any condition. One name that became synonymous to their new set-up was none other than their swashbuckling opener – Prithvi Shaw.
Over three years, this 22-year-old batter managed to scalp a total of 1305 runs at an average of 24.92. This is backed with an impressive strike rate of 146.30, in just over 50 matches he has played for the team. The recently concluded edition of the IPL proved to be a successful one for the Mumbaikar, as he added 479 runs to his run tally. What made him stand out, was that Shaw always looked to decimate the bowling attacks every time he walked out and often got the team to a roaring start.
Having retained four players led to DC dishing out 42.5 Crores from their purse as per the rules. The up-gradation of Nortje’s contract from 6 crores to 6.5 crores led to Prithvi Shaw taking a salary cut of 0.5 crores despite a stellar season. He will surely be eyeing at upping his performances to guarantee himself a higher payroll in the future.
