The two-time champions of the cash-rich league would have also been one of the teams to face a lot of struggle while closing in on their retentions. With some of their big names being left out ahead of the 2022 mega auction, the men in purple turned to the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy as their second retention, whom they roped in a couple of seasons ago.

The Tamil Nadu leg spinner was one of KKR’s key players in the 2021 season. He managed to scalp 18 wickets off the 17 games he played, making him the sixth-highest wicket-taker of this edition. An economy of 6.58 led him to become an instrumental part of the team’s power-play and the middle overs.

Although the spinner was their 2nd retention, the salary cut he had to take was accounted to a massive four crores, leading him with a contract of eight crores in hand. His underperformance in the T20 World Cup may have led to this dip in salary. Nevertheless, with Varun and Narine back in their bowling attack, KKR would look to terrorize the opposition with the spinning duo.
