5 Players who went from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to Mumbai Indians (MI)

Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are two of the most successful teams in the history of the IPL. MI have won four IPL titles which is the most by any team. On the other hand, CSK have three as well and they have even played a couple of seasons less than MI. Moreover, the two teams have built quite a bit of rivalry as the IPL has progressed. MI have the edge as they’ve won 17 out of the 28 encounters. Moreover, three out of the four titles that they’ve won, CSK have been in the final. In fact, there have been times when players released from one team have been picked up by the other. Thus, here are five players who have gone from CSK to MI over the years in the IPL. 5 Players who went for CSK to MI: Parthiv Patel Parthiv Patel. (Photo by Tom Shaw/Getty Images) Parthiv Patel has played for as many as six teams in the 12 seasons of the IPL. One of the main reasons has been his inconsistency. He has scored more than 300 runs in a season only four times and has an overall average of 22.60 in the IPL. Patel was with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the first three seasons. The Gujarat wicket-keeper played 13 games in the opening season before playing only 13 more across the next two editions. It was largely due to the presence of MS Dhoni and also, top-order batsmen doing well that Patel didn’t get consistent opportunities. The left-hander scored 516 runs at an average of 21.50 for CSK. In the next four years, he played for four different teams before Mumbai Indians (MI) picked him up in 2015. For three years, Patel was a regular member of the MI side. He’s played 40 games for them which is the most for him for any franchise and in those, he has amassed 911 runs. However, he was released after the 2017 edition and is now with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Michael Hussey Mike Hussey. (Photo Source: Twitter) You think of Michael Hussey in the IPL and you think Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Hussey hardly played in the first three seasons. In 2008, he scored a ton in his debut IPL game but went on to feature in only three more games that season. He missed the 2009 season before playing just three in the next one. However, it was in the period 2011 to 2013 that the Australian batsman stamped his authority. In 2011 and 2012, Hussey scored 492 runs at 41.00 and 261 runs at 32.63 respectively to lead CSK’s charge with the bat. But in 2013, he smashed records to pieces as he aggregated 733 runs and finished at the top of the run charts. Despite that, CSK didn’t retain him ahead of the mega auction in 2014. It was Mumbai Indians (MI) who bought the left-hander. Hussey played nine games for them and scored 209 runs at an average of 23.22. In 2015, he was back with CSK but played only four games. In 2011, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) picked him up from the auction. In that season, the New Zealand fast bowler played five games and picked up four wickets. However, he was expensive as he went at 8.73 runs an over. Thus, he was released after the season. He wasn’t a part of the IPL for a few years before Rajasthan Royals (RR) bought him. In 2016, Mumbai Indians (MI) showed interest in the pacer and bought him. Southee played 14 games across two seasons. But he wasn’t really effective as he could take just 12 wickets and they came at an economy of 8.01. Thus, be it for MI or CSK or any other team, Southee hasn’t been much of a hit in the IPL. Jacob Oram Jacob Oram. (Photo Source: Twitter) Jacob Oram may have played only 18 games but the lanky New Zealand all-rounder has represented three teams across four seasons. For the first couple of seasons, Oram was a part of the CSK set-up. In fact, in the first season (2008), he played four games and didn’t have a big impact. In the second season which took place in South Africa, the seam-bowling all-rounder was a regular member in the XI. He played 11 games but didn’t impress again. He scored 88 runs and picked up five wickets. Thus, he was released and in 2013, was picked up by Mumbai Indians (MI). However, the New Zealander played a mere one game. He did not bat but he completed his quota of four overs where he conceded 22 runs. It was the very first game of the season and after that, he warmed the bench. Thisara Perera Thisara Perera. In fact, he’s played only six seasons and each season, he has been with a new team. It started with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Perera was a part of the MS Dhoni-led side in the 2010 edition. However, he played just one game where he didn’t bat and in the only over he bowled, he conceded 19 runs. He was released only to be picked up by Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011. And when they weren’t a part of the IPL after just one season, it was Mumbai Indians’ turn to pick him. However, Perera hardly made any contribution. He played two games, out of which he batted in twice and scored a four not out and zero not out. With the ball, he bowled 2.3 overs combined in the two games, conceding 27 runs.
