5 Reasons why West Indies will find it tough to beat India

This weekend is expected to be a sizzling one for the cricket lovers as India gears up to play two back to back T20Is against West Indies at a new exciting venue. The Men in Blue, for the first time in the history, will be playing in the United States of America when they come out to play at the at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium. The Test series in West Indies was an easy walk in the park for the Indians but that certainly won’t be the case in the T20Is. The Caribbean Kings look revitalized with the return of their T20 superstars. However, this fact doesn’t guarantee them complete dominance over their Indian counterparts. They still have a few things to worry about. Here is a look at the 5 reason why West Indies will find it tough to beat India in the upcoming T20 series. 1. (Photo by SAEED KHAN/AFP/Getty Images) India’s four men fast bowling attack comprising of Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah have a good T20 reputation. All of these four players playing together looks impossible. But, whatever the combination MS Dhoni chooses to go with, it will be dangerous for the opposition. Umesh Yadav, the fastest out of the four, chips wickets with the new ball and loves to charge the batsmen with pace. He may have played only one T20 for his national team but his performances in the IPL have kept improving over the years. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is another bowler who has added more strength to his bowing. 2016 has been quite good for him in terms of T20 cricket. He was a vital man for Sunrisers Hyderabad in their title winning run this IPL season, picking up 23 wickets in just 14 games. The swing bowler will be tricky to handle with the new ball as well at the death. Mohammad Shami, too, carries the same reputation. The last the most important one – Jasprit Bumrah. Armed with nippy pace and accurate yorkers, Bumrah would perhaps be the one out of these four men the Windies batsmen would really worry about. If simply put together, overall Kohli has piled on 1598 runs in just 29 innings at an unbelievable average of 94. His most memorable run came with his IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kohli, who captains the side, scored over 900 runs in 14 matches to single-handedly take his team to the finals from being on the verge of getting knocked out in the league stages. This suggests that Kohli, who at the moment can be termed as a maniac, has the capability to ruin any opposition with his batting prowess on any given day. 3. No, there’s no doubt about his cricketing skills. But, it is his leadership skills that will really be tested in the series. Inexperience at the international level may be a problem for Brathwaite who has played only 8 T20Is, 14 ODIs, and 3 Tests thus far in his career. He has little captaincy experience in domestic cricket but is a relatively untested leader. Although the team is full of senior veterans, tactical blunders in the fast-paced format may lead to negative results for the team. With a man like MS Dhoni leading the opposition, playing against India sometimes is a captain v captain contest. This adds to the challenge as any decision by Brathwaite could ease the work for Mahi and can cost West Indies the match. There’s no doubt that West Indies reign supreme in this format and the team which will take the field at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium is way stronger than the Test team. Barring Darren Sammy, the squad is the same which won the World T20 title earlier this year. But, being complacent has been a problem. All these stalwarts have a slight reputation of underperforming. They have shown over-reliance on one or two players generally and on most of the occasions if these players fail then the team succumbs. To give an example, most of the times if Chris Gayle at the top or say the likes of Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels or Sunil Narine are unable to deliver then putting up a competitive fight becomes a problem for them on most occasion. The last time both these teams met, West Indies, riding on the heroics of Lendl Simmons had knocked out India in the semi-finals of the World T20. West Indies, as well know, went on to clinch the trophy and become world champions thereafter. Keeping the dramatic World T20 game in the back of the mind, India will now be playing with a slight sense of vengeance. This can be a motivating factor and push India to do better and make things tough for West Indies.
