The number one team in ODI cricket has the tendency to collapse especially in the mega events. We have seen a few instances in the past where England has snatched loss from the jaws of victory.

In a rain-curtailed encounter of 20 overs each in the finals of the Champions trophy 2013, England contained India to 7/129 overs in 20 overs courtesy a three-wicket spell by Ravi Bopara. Chasing the target of 130 England at one stage were cruising at 4/110 in 17.3 overs, but after a late lower middle order collapse they fell short of the target by 5 runs.

In a do-or-die game against Bangladesh in the 2015 World Cup held in Australia/ New Zealand, England was chasing a stiff target of 276 runs. At one stage they were right in the game when they were 2/121 in just 26 overs. However, an inspired bowling spell by Rubel Hussain on the Adelaide wicket saw them fell short of the target by 15 runs despite a breezy half-century by Jos Butler. England was knocked out of the tournament after this loss and since then many changes have been made in the England ODI set-up.

This time around England would not be looking to repeat those mistakes and they would like to improve their temperament while playing big games.
