After a long period of time, the Indian cricket team will witness split captaincy. Since the legendary skipper MS Dhoni took over, India didn’t require different captains and after him, Kohli led all three formats.
Split captaincy is followed by several international teams. India, as a unit, had done well under the single captain Kohli. But the lack of ICC trophy collections and his degraded performance with the bat forced the committee to split the captaincy.
Now, Kohli could concentrate more on his Test captaincy whereas Rohit will captain in both limited-over formats. ODI is an extended format of the T20 and requires an almost similar style of strategies. With the T20 World cup and ODI World Cup approaching, Rohit can build the team accordingly with ample time.
