5 Reasons why selectors made a right choice by dropping Rishabh Pant
The selection panel has dropped some good players, and one of them is Rishabh Pant but there are some reasons which justify the action.
5) Chinks in wicket-keeping skills
Rishabh Pant has successfully kept wickets in Tests, but there are few chinks in his glove work. In England when Pant was behind the stumps, it was clear that he was trying to judge the angle of the delivery from the hand of the bowler, and in that series, he conceded 76 byes in 3 matches which is not a number associated with regular keepers. Pant has a decent set of hands, but he is not stable in his position which is not good in case of slow bowlers.
Recently in a match against Australia where the opposition were under pressure of chasing 360, Pant fluffed a couple of stumping chances against the spinners. The Australian batsman Ashton Turner was the beneficiary of Pant’s mistake, as he went onto score 84 off 43 balls, and the result was an Australian victory in a crucial tie of the series. In WC games there will be extreme pressure on keepers, as a single mistake behind the stumps can cost the team, and that’s why Dinesh Karthik is a better choice than Pant, as he is an all-round keeper.
In a tournament like WC, some players are going to get dropped, as only 15 players are going to get picked in the squad, and they have to be good enough in all conditions. The Indian selectors have picked a good side for the 2019 England WC, but as usual, they will be praised and criticized in equal measure.
