Rahul Dravid remains as a legendary figure in the Indian cricket as he amassed over 10000 runs in both Test and ODI formats on his way to handing many memorable wins for the country. One can’t deny that Dravid’s achievements weren’t as celebrated as they should have been during his playing days with the presence of Sachin Tendulkar who attained godly status. The Karnataka batsman owned many records under his belt during his cricketing career but few of them hardly earn an attention.
Here we look at five records from Rahul Dravid’s professional career not many people are aware of:
5. Oldest player for India in T20Is
Rahul Dravid’s T20I debut came under dramatic circumstances as the former Indian skipper got picked in the playing XI due to an injury-hit squad. Few specialist top-order batsmen got ruled out ahead of the one-off T20I against England in Manchester. Sachin Tendulkar opted out of the game as he announced his retirement from the format a year before.
Rahul was 38 years and 232 days old on the day of his lone T20I match which makes him the oldest player to feature in a T20I for India. MS Dhoni has a good chance of breaking this record if he plays a in the format at any point from here on.
Dravid also became one of the oldest T20I debutants at that point and was also the then oldest T20I debutant from the Test playing countries. Only one full-member nation player is ahead of Dravid as of today in the list of oldest T20I debutants – Rafatullah Mohmand of Pakistan who was past 39 while making his debut in 2015 against England. Rafatullah did play two more T20Is after making his debut in the format.
