2016 was really the year when the world sat down and watched Kohli’s expertise in the T20 format. Kohli was awarded the Man of the Tournament award in the ICC World T20 2016 which was played in India for his splendid batting performances.

Kohli was at the pick of his powers and was getting runs in the format for fun. But, then came the IPL 2016 and the legend of Kohli got another chapter. In 2016 edition of the tournament, Kohli scored 973 runs with an average of 81.08. No player had ever crossed the 900-run barrier until then.

In fact, the second-most runs ever in an IPL season was 848 runs by David Warner in 2016. No one else has crossed 800 runs other than these two legends. Had Kohli not got out at 54 runs in the final, he might have crossed the 1000-run barrier too. He also scored four centuries in that season, most by any player in a single edition of any T20 tournament.
