3. Most centuries in ODI run chases
Back in late 2009, India was chasing a stiff total of 315 runs to win an ODI match in Kolkata. Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag had got out early but two young Delhi boys took India to a win with their centuries. One of them was Gautam Gambhir and another one was Kohli. Interestingly, this was Kohli’s first ODI century and the fact it had come in a run-chase was a testament of his ability to do well in tough situations.
Virat Kohli has been quoted saying that he wasn’t good at maths back in school. However, the chase-master knows how to calculate and get run chases done in the most masterful way. His record in second innings of ODIs is just phenomenal. He averages 68.33 in second innings of an ODI match while his average batting first is 49.77. His strike rate goes up from 91.68 to 94.35 while batting second.
If this wasn’t enough, the Indian captain has scored 26 centuries in ODIs while batting second. This is a world record and second on that list is Sachin Tendulkar, who has 17 centuries in the second innings. Kohli leads the way by plenty on this matter.
