3. An impact player who can change the course of the game singlehandedly
Windies in the 1980s had one of the most dominating batsmen of all time, Sir Viv Richards, in their ranks. The St John’s born batsman was known for his brash swagger and belligerent hitting ability. It is believed that opposition was afraid of sledging the great West Indian as he used to get even more aggressive and dangerous, such was his fear at that time.
The 66-year-old’s sight of coming on to the crease, with chewing gum, and hitting the fast bowlers for gigantic sixes is well known. He was capable of changing the course of the game on his own with his aggressive style of batting which gave nightmares to many great bowlers of that era. The right-handed batsman amassed more than 15000 runs in international cricket with an average of almost 50. The reason why the Caribbeans weren’t afraid to lose was mostly due to Sir Viv Richards who was the most destructive batsman of the 1980s.
India, on the other hand, has the best player of the current era, Virat Kohli, in its ranks. It won’t be wrong to say that Indian batting mostly revolves around the Delhi-born batsman as he scores the abundance of team’s runs in all the formats. The aggressive nature of the Indian skipper reflects in his batting style as he likes to dominate the bowlers from the word go.
The credit for India’s success on the highest level should be given to Kohli who led the team by setting an example himself, scoring runs everywhere. The 30-year-old is the mainstay of Indian batting line-up and can take the game away from opposition singlehandedly with his astonishing strokeplay and sheer class. The Indian skipper is on a rampage breaking every single batting record with many more still to come.
