Same for MI, where he warmed the bench for two seasons, while <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/rohit-sharma-other-mi-players-indulge-in-an-interesting-team-bonding-session/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Rohit Sharma</strong></a> and Quinton de Kock took charge at the top. Also while his stats are good, they mask his struggles against the spinners. But on the whole, Chris Lynn is one player, whose modest success in IPL is not entirely of his own making, but rather an unfortunate play of circumstances.</p>
<h3>2. Eoin Morgan</h3>

<p>The captain of England&#8217;s limited-overs side, Eoin Morgan is a monumental personality and an inspirational leader like few others in the game. His calm demeanor and his shrewd tactics make cricket pundits linken him to MS Dhoni, arguably the best mind in T20 cricket. Along with his captaincy, his consistent and aggressive contributions with the bat have been one of the main reasons behind England&#8217;s phoenix-like rise in limited-overs cricket. Currently the defending ICC ODI World Cup captain, the Irish-born cricketer has achieved much more than he would have settled for at the start of his career.</p>
<p>However, Eoin Morgan would have bargained for much more in IPL than he got. Having played 83 matches for four IPL franchises since 2010, most of them for <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-frustrated-sanju-samson-protests-umpires-wide-call-with-drs-signal-in-kkr-vs-rr-game/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Kolkata Knight Riders</strong></a>, Morgan has scored at a shocking average of 22.66, with a barely-believable strike rate of 122.6. Any other player would have been discarded much sooner with those numbers. His finest hour in IPL came as a result of his captaincy, not his batting. In IPL 2021, Eoin Morgan led KKR to the finals, losing to Dhoni&#8217;s CSK in the end.</p>
<p>But his form was horrendous, to say the least. Scoring 133 runs in 17 matches at an average of 11.08 while striking at just 95.68, Morgan&#8217;s IPL 2021 might just be the worst IPL a recognized batsman ever had in IPL history while playing all the matches for their side. So it was not a surprise when the finalist captain of last season was neither retained by KKR nor picked up by any side at the auction.</p>
<h3>3. Darren Sammy</h3>

<p>The only person in the relatively short history of T20 cricket to win the T20 World Cup twice as captain, Darren Sammy is a T20 behemoth. Granted that he had the services of some of the greatest names in T20 cricket at his disposal, the contribution of Sammy&#8217;s captaincy to the multiple title wins cannot be understated. A powerful hitter of the cricket ball, a handy bowler, and an outstanding fielder, Sammy was not just a &#8216;specialist captain&#8217;, as a lot of people are made to believe.</p>
<p>However, the IPL is a different story altogether for the tall Saint Lucian. He has scored only 295 runs at a paltry average of 19.67 in 22 innings in the IPL. What is even more worrying, however, is his strike rate of 122.4 across those innings. Comparing this to his T20I strike rate of 147.49 across 68 games for <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/nicholas-pooran-named-west-indies-white-ball-captain-following-kieron-pollards-international-retirement/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>West Indies</strong></a>, the contrast becomes stark. His bowling stats are pretty average as well (11 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 31.8), though these can not be counted against him that much, considering he was never known as a great exponent of this art.</p>
<p>As a consequence, Sammy plied his trade for three different franchises in the three seasons of IPL that he was a part of, the last of those being IPL 2015. Since then, the only associations Sammy has had with IPL were either commentary stints, or his statements exposing racism in IPL.</p>
<h3>4. Aaron Finch</h3>

<p>The captain of Australia&#8217;s men&#8217;s limited-overs team, Aaron Finch is the defending T20 World Cup captain, having won the 2021 T20 World Cup as skipper. An aggressive top-order batsman, Finch is a vital cog in Australia&#8217;s white-ball set-up. An absolute marauder on his day, Finch has the highest individual score (172 against Zimbabwe in 2018) and well as the third-highest individual score (156 against England in 2013) in T20I history. Currently, he is the sixth-best T20I batsman in the world according to ICC rankings.</p>
<p>Before we talk about his numbers in IPL, a more interesting study is to look at the teams he has played for. Aaron Finch has represented as many as nine teams in the IPL. Barring the two new franchises in LSG and GT, the Aussie cricketer has represented all the other teams, except for <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-csk-players-celebrate-eid-in-team-hotel-skipper-ms-dhoni-interacts-with-kids/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Chennai Super Kings</strong></a>. No other player, Indian or international, has represented as many teams in IPL as Finch has.</p>
<p>More than his numbers, which are decent enough (2000+ runs in 91 matches at a strike rate of 128.4), his changing jerseys are an indicator of his fortunes in IPL. He has simply not been good enough for any franchise for them to retain him. While he has 15 fifties to his name in IPL, including the highest score of 88*(53) against Delhi Daredevils in 2014, his performances haven&#8217;t been consistent, or commensurate with his performances in the international arena.</p>
<h3>5. Yuvraj Singh</h3>

<p>Yuvraj Singh is a phenomenon in Indian cricket. Even after almost five years since he last played in India colours, the ace all-rounder has legions of fans who swear the cricketer had more to offer. And not without reason. Whenever the one-dimensionality of current Indian team players is discussed, Yuvraj&#8217;s name arouses nostalgia. The IPL owes much of its current success to the popularity T20s gained in India after the 2007 T20 World Cup triumph, which could be attributed in no small measure to Yuvraj, the most charismatic player of his generation.</p>
<p>IPL, however, has not been able to capture much of Yuvraj&#8217;s magic. Marquee player of Kings XI Punjab (now <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/twitter-reacttions-all-round-punjab-kings-bring-end-to-gujarat-titans-winning-spree/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Punjab Kings</strong></a>) in the first season, he had all the ingredients to succeed in the biggest cricket league in the world. And occasionally, the 2011 World Cup winner put them on display. With a whirlwind inning, a fielding brilliance, or a game-changing spell, Yuvraj could blind the viewer with his sheer aura, only to disappear like a chimera a moment later. To date, Yuvraj is the only bowler in IPL history to take two hat-tricks in the same season.</p>
<p>Like Aaron Finch, Yuvraj too was a bit of an IPL traveller, playing for six teams in his IPL career, fetching record amounts every time. While the number of teams suggests his below-par performance, the record amounts are a marker of his potential and his star power. Team owners love a crowd-puller like Yuvraj, even though his performances might not be top-notch. Whatever might have been Yuvraj&#8217;s fate in the IPL, there is no doubt that Yuvraj will forever be remembered as an enigma, not to mention an all-rounder and match-winner with no equal. </p>
