The modern-day cricket is full of fast-paced action and the T20 cricket should be given its due credit. Within a decade the format has become a major attraction in the gentlemen’s game. Nowadays the T20 leagues have been acting as the launchpad for the next generation cricketers. Particularly the IPL where a lot of Indian domestic talents take their next step. Along with them the international established players also get an opportunity to expand their repertoire.

Though the Indian Premier League is a franchise-based tournament, the pressure is sky-high as the players are paid hefty amounts for their services. In such circumstances, even the critically acclaimed international stars have found it difficult to perform at their highest level. It may not be a big deal in terms of their cricketing success but it will always be a black mark in their professional careers.

Here is the list of 5 T20 World Cup-winning players who failed in IPL

1) Marlon Samuels

The West Indies cricket has been a powerhouse in the slam-bang version of the game. Not only they are the current champions of this format they have won the prestigious title two times. The Caribbean players are the most sought commodities in the T20 market as their skillset is the winning formula for all the franchises around the globe.

The island cricketers are known for their power-hitting but surprisingly the two innings which changed their history include the knocks of Marlon Samuels. Though the right-hander is one of the controversial individuals to represent West Indies, he is one of the talented batsmen to emerge from the country. His unbeaten 78 in the 2012 WT20 final is an innings that will be remembered for a long time. Even in 2016 he single-handedly retained the title with his 85.

For all his heroics Samuels got the reward in the form of an IPL contract in 2012 but he failed miserably. In his 8 games, he gathered a total of 124 runs at a strike rate of 100.  The numbers didn’t justify his capabilities. Then in 2017 he was snapped up by Delhi and ended up with more disappointing stats of 27 runs in 5 ties. He couldn’t weave his magic with his all-round abilities.
