3. Tilak Varma

The Mumbai Indians’ debutant Tilak Varma was a special find for the franchise this season. When all other players, including the senior ones, failed to put up a competitive performance for the team, Varma took the responsibility to make his bat talk.

Though MI won very few games in the league this season and ended up in the bottom-most position, they had a few players who performed consistently in all the games. Suryakumar Yadav’s absence was felt by the team in the initial stage, but Varma covered up the gap in the middle order.

He ended up scoring 397 runs in his maiden IPL stint, in 14 games that he played, which included two half-centuries. The left-hander played multiple knocks under pressure and displayed composure with the bat. After making a mark at the IPL, he is one of the players who might receive a maiden call-up.
