2. Retirement of some of the biggest stalwarts in the game
In 2008, the cricketing world was still living in the day and age of the great Sachin Tendulkar. The little master was just in his 19th year of international cricket. India’s fab four – Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman were still playing international cricket. While Ganguly retired in the same year (2008), Laxman and Dravid hung their boots in 2012.
Meanwhile, other stars like Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis were still headlining for their respective teams. Also, the Sri Lankan legends like Muttiah Muralitharan, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene were still an active part of all three formats. Many more stars were still playing cricket very actively when Tanvir bowled that spell of 6/14.
However, as time has gone along, all the stalwarts have retired one after the other. The cricketing world has witnessed new superstars in these 11 years.
