5 Things that need to go CSKs way for them to win the IPL 2015: The heavy weight match is set to take place at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. For the third time, in the history of 8 IPL seasons, Chennai and Mumbai lock horns against each other in the finals. It is very important to keep the nerves in the high voltage match. The men in yellow have been ruthless and have been extremely consistent in this 8th edition of Indian Premier League. However, there have been some problems and that needs to be taken care of before CSK encounter the Mumbai Indians. 1. Lack of Consistency at the Top: (Photo Source: BCCI) After a very forgettable world cup, Smith started the 8th edition of IPL with a bang. He was looking in very good touch and scored heavily along with McCullum but as the tournament progressed, his form faded away and off late he was dismissed cheaply. Smith has always had problems with the incoming delivery. The other teams have made full use of his weakness and exploited it. The first 10 matches were very productive for the Caribbean as he scored around 300 runs at an average close to 35 but in the later stages, the consistency level dropped and he averages less than 20 now. Chennai needs some contribution from his bat to be crowned as the third time champions. 2. This southpaw has scored 400 runs in every season of the Indian Premier League till the 7th edition. He still requires 64 more runs to achieve this milestone even this time. If he scores those 64 in the finals against Mumbai tomorrow then, this would provide Chennai a good platform to regain the trophy. Raina has played some cameo roles in this edition but hasn’t performed to his fullest potential. CSK will surely miss his power hitting if he fails in the finals. 3. Jadeja’s Role: (Photo Source: BCCI) Being the all rounder in the side, Jadeja’s role is undefined. He hasn’t scored with the bat also he never looked good enough to take wickets. The only match he played well was against Punjab, picking up 4 off them. Every all-rounder should make sure that he either bats or bowls perfectly. Jadeja has been completely out of form. Negi bats ahead of Jadeja in most of the matches. This shows how inconsistent Jadeja has been throughout this season. If Chennai dreams of winning their 3rd title, Jadeja has to play a vital role either with bat or with the ball. 4. With the likes of Dhoni, Smith, Raina and Du Plesiss, one can expect a heavy scoring game whenever Chennai comes on to bat. But in this season, it is their bowlers who have outperformed the batsmen. Nehra has been very good with the new ball by picking up 22 wickets. Most of these have come with the new ball. Not to forget the Purple cap holder, Bravo, he has also bowled really well. When Nehra picks wickets with new ball, it is Bravo who finishes it off in the death overs. He has picked 24 scalps this season. The lack of partnerships with the bat has been another problem for Chennai. Looking to be aggressive, the batsmen have lost wickets in heaps. So building partnerships is the key element to be successful with the bat as a team. 5. Dhoni’s Captaincy: (Photo Source: BCCI) MS has done a terrific job in bringing this team into the play offs for the 6th time, in the history of the league. But the small tactical errors can make the team lose a game form a very commanding position. Thus he has to take quick decisions and lead from front. For example, Dhoni made Negi bowl the pre final over, against Mumbai in the league match at Chennai, which cost the team the game. 24 runs were scored in that over which eventually made the difference. So Dhoni has to manage his teams’ skills and play accordingly. If he is able to do that, then CSK would be a really difficult side to be beat. Chennai should bowl if they win the toss and restrict Mumbai to a low target and look to chase it down with ease.
