Cricketers and their gossips are always a treat to listen for every ardent follower of the sport. And, it is quite a normal thing for a fan to believe in those stories that directly come out from the mouth of players. However, there have been many players who cooked up stories to attract the spotlight or for getting an advantage. But in the end, the statements given by them were found invalid or false.
In the meantime, those players ended up paying a hefty price for the same. Some had to face the wrath of fans while some had to serve a punishment. So, here we are to tell about the five occasions when cricketers cooked up stories. Surprisingly, many big international players are also part of this list.
Here are five such instances:
1. Dale Steyn
Dale Steyn, the veteran pacer from South Africa recently hogged the spotlight for giving a statement against umpire Ian Gould. The fast-bowler said that he got Sachin Tendulkar lbw out when he was playing in 190s during the historic ODI match. But, the umpire didn’t raise his finger.
As per Steyn, Gould needed to go back to his hotel after the game. This statement from the 36-year-old left everyone in shock and media began analyzing that particular instance if there was anything true or not.
However, the claims that were made by the Proteas bowler were untrue. In reply to that instance, it was clearly visible that Tendulkar was not out. In that match, the former Indian opener became the first player to smack a double in an ODI match. Later on, South Africa lost that match by a margin of 153 runs in Gwalior.
