The tied Test in Madras in September 1986 between India and Australia will live forever be in the memories of all those present to witness the spectacle. While Allan Border and Ravi Shastri have come out and spoken about it in recent times, nobody remembers the umpire who gave Maninder Singh out to tie the Test.

With two deliveries to play, the Indians and Australians were on the same scores. Maninder Singh, Indian’s last batsman was adjudged leg-before by Vikramraju, the umpire at the time. As Ravi Shastri swears to this day, there was an inside-edge, something that ensured that India did not claim a win and the match was tied, only the second Tied Test at the time.

Although Shastri told a story about having a go at Vikramraju after the end of the match, the fact remains that it was a tie, a historic event in a fixture of epic proportions.
