5 uncapped players who might be released ahead of IPL 2020

The Indian Premier League has always served as a platform for the youngsters. It helps the uncapped and the aspiring players to earn a name and showcase their mettle in front of the established heroes. Many players who have represented India have been able to do so due to performances in the tournament. However, it is very difficult to be a part of this cash-rich league, since the competition is pretty heavy. Many players come in use of their franchises, due to the availability of better players. These players do have potential, but not the form backing them. The franchises often sought to release these players in the next season. As the IPL 2020 auctions come closer, let us take a look at a few such players from the previous season, whom the franchises would like to release this time around. Here are 5 uncapped players who might be released ahead of IPL 2020 1. Shreevats Goswami Shreevats Goswami. (Photo: Surjeet Yadav/IANS) The wicketkeeper-batsman from Kolkata has featured in 9 seasons of the tournament, but never got enough opportunities to prove himself. He has been with Sunrisers Hyderabad since 2018, but only to warm the bench more often than not. The southpaw did not play a single game last season. It is quite understandable, since Jonny Bairstow had sealed his spot in such a way, that even the likes of Wriddhaman Saha found it hard to get the due. And in the presence of these two keeper-batsmen, his fate isn’t likely to change in the next season as well. Therefore, SRH might consider releasing him for the next season. Doing away with him will also free up the purse value of 1 crore, which they can use to buy an uncapped batsman who might solidify their middle order. 2. KM Asif Chennai Super Kings. (Photo by IANS) The medium-pace bowler from Kerala, KM Asif didn’t get enough chances to prove his worth in the Chennai Super Kings side thus far. MS Dhoni very rarely picked him in the XI and he might be axed this season. In place of KM Asif, CSK can bring in any well-known pacer to strengthen their bowling line-up. He was picked by CSK in IPL 2018 Auction for 40 lakhs by CSK. He kept his base price at 20 Lakhs. Asif made his IPL debut against Delhi Daredevils (Now Delhi Capitals) in 2018. He played two IPL games thus far picking three wickets in those games. It will interesting to see CSK’s call on the pacer. 3. Prayas Ray Barman Prayas Ray Barman. (Photo Source: Twitter) In 2018, Prayas became the youngest debutant in IPL, when he donned the RCB colors for the first time against SRH. However, that turned out to be the horrendous outing for the 15-year-old, as he went for 56 runs in his four overs in that game, that will be remembered for centuries for both David Warner and Jonny Bairstow. That was the only game for the leg-spinner all-rounder. Prayas warming the bench isn’t very surprising. The Virat Kohl side already enjoys the services of Moeen Ali and Yuzvendra Chahal. They play seven of their games on a flat Chinnaswamy deck, which is a graveyard for spinners. Therefore, team dynamics never allows it to play many spinners. Thus, Barman will never be benefitted in RCB. Moreover, he might be a useful addition to other teams, which may give him a chance to play. 4. Varun Chakravarthy Varun Chakravarthy. (Photo Source: Twitter) The spinner from Tamil Nadu stole the limelight when he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for a hefty amount of 8.4 crores. He was being touted as a bright prospect and an X-factor, mainly due to his multiple variations. He played his debut match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he went for 25 runs in the very first over. He had a horrendous outing as he ended with the figures of 3-0-35-0. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old has not played in any game since then, with a finger fracture ruling him out of action. In a team that consists of the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, he will never be the first choice. Releasing him ahead of IPL 2020 may help the Kings to strengthen their fragile batting order, which was the main cause of their downfall last time around. 5. T Natarajan T Natarajan. (Photo Source: TNPL) T Natarajan was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018, and retained for the next season as well. However, in a star-studded bowling line-up comprising Bhuvneshwar Kumar along with young guns in Siddharth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma, he was only made to warm the bench, without getting a single game across the two seasons. The southpaw has been performing in the domestic circuit, but that hasn’t helped his cause. SRH should consider leaving the youngster, for this may help him to get a team which gives him more chances in IPL 2020. This will help in the growth of 28-year-old, who has been in limelight since 2017, but not been able to live up to his own potential. Natarajan last played an IPL game in 2017.
