3. Anukul Roy (Mumbai Indians)
Everyone remembers the likes of Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Manjot Kalra wreaking havoc with their precocious skills during India’s triumphant 2018 U19 World Cup campaign in New Zealand. But, there was one other guy who played an equally important role.
A potent left-arm orthodox spinner, a more than handy batsman and a gun fielder. It is no wonder that young Anukul Roy looks up to Ravindra Jadeja for inspiration. With 14 wickets in six games at an average of 9.07, Anukul was the joint-leading wicket-taker in the World Cup. Roy is no mug with the bat either.
The left-arm spinner gave an account of his skills when he played a vital 45-ball 33 against Pakistan in the semi-finals. Roy was snapped up by Mumbai Indians but with the 4-time champions already boasting of the likes of Rahul Chahar, Krunal Pandya, Jayant Yadav, and Mayank Markande, he managed to play just a solitary game. With Mumbai boasting of a plethora of options, it’s only prudent that they release Roy from their squad ahead of IPL 2020.
