Twitter is one of the funniest social media platforms in the world. Even cricketers from around the world opt to tweet out to express their ideas or concerns and sometimes to show disappointment as well. It has also become a platform where brands use their social reach to cater to a wider audience through these “influencers”.
Through Twitter, the cricketers troll their colleagues, connect and interact with the fans & post a wide array of content from their selfies to workout videos and behind the scenes from shoots and what not. On several occasions, the cricketers have also posted some shocking tweets which have surprised the whole cricketing world. It could be their reaction on not being picked in the team or banter with another cricketer on a matter.
Here, we will have a look at some of those unexpected tweets from international cricketers:
1. Ambati Rayudu
Ambati Rayudu made headlines after he posted a sarcastic tweet. It was put out after the selection of India’s 15-man World Cup 2019 squad. Rayudu, who had been India’s regular no. 4 from the past one year, wasn’t selected in the side due to his poor form just at the wrong time. A few months before this fiasco happened, the 33-year old was named as the permanent no. 4 of the Indian team and the Indian skipper Virat Kohli had assured that he will be on the plane to England.
Howbeit, because of his poor form during the Australia and New Zealand tours, the right-handed batsman wasn’t picked in the cadre and was replaced by all-rounder Vijay Shankar. The reason that was given for the former’s exclusion and the latter’s inclusion was the fact that Shankar, is a good enough batter, can also bowl a bit and is a magnificent fielder, which isn’t the case with Rayudu.
The India chief selector had termed Shankar as a 3-dimensional player. However, this didn’t go well with the Andhra Pradesh-born Rayudu as he, albeit in a humorous manner, tried to troll them with a sarcastic tweet.
“Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup ????????..” Ambati Rayudu tweeted. It received more than 10k retweets and around 100k likes with over 21k comments.
