3. Standing hockey swat- Ross Taylor
Way back in the late 2000s, this shot was a trademark deal for Ross Taylor. As the bowlers used to curb Taylor’s leg-side scoring, the Kiwi batter used to walk towards the offside and drag-flick. Even till 2019, when the cricketer was averaging around 75 in ODIs, this stroke significantly uplifted his strike rate, especially at the modest New Zealand venues.
Perhaps to completely understand this exclusive stroke, it is still offered even when the ball can be cover-driven or lofted over the off side. By moving across stumps and bending his knees, the cross-bat shot just allowed Taylor to disappear the ball in the mid-wicket region.
Comprehensively, while even other players like Yuvraj Singh had a special flick to fetch boundaries at the mid-wicket, Taylor’s swat largely comes from hockey. To relish this NZ legend’s unique creation, watch the highlights of the RCB matches in 2009.
