4. Ramp shot – Douglas Marillier
As being part of any batter’s improvisational skills, the ramp shot has now become a modern-day offering. If the fine-leg fielder is just inside then all one needs to do is bend on his knees and flick the ball over. Sometimes even above the gloveman’s head both for a four or six. Though at present, the stroke’s perfection is best witnessed by the hands of Jos Buttler, other players like Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohin Khan also used to be his regular exponents.
However, the ramp’s initial unleashing was first done by Douglas Marillier. The Zimbabwe batter had first lapsed Glenn McGrath’s two low full-tosses for boundaries in 2001. Barring Dougie, it is also believed that an Aussie wicket-keeper named Sammy Carter was the chief inventor to hoick balls over his left shoulder.
Overall, while Marillier was the one who initiated the stroke against the Aussies, it’s the Pakistanis in general who have endured the maximum misery out of it.
