Kings XI Punjab is the least successful team in the IPL history and they will not be proud to carry that tag. In the 2019 IPL, they had a settled unit to challenge the top-ranked sides but their bizarre decision-making skills cost them dearly. Even their auction strategy was quite unorthodox as they bid for multiple players fulfilling the same role in the side.

The prime example was the inclusion of Varun Chakravarthy when their spin cupboard was already full of options. They snapped him because of the mystery surrounding him but at the price of 8.40 crores, it was a gamble of the highest order. In the end, he bowled a total of 3 overs including the most expensive over by an IPL debutant. After that, he became an afterthought for the franchise and warmed the benches for the rest of the season with an injury.

It is highly impossible that the Punjab management is going to retain him for such a hefty sum. It might sound vague but they should take another chance with the Tamil Nadu tweaker as he can be the joker of the pack. With Ravi Ashwin set to join Delhi Capitals for the next edition of IPL, the North Indian team needs a domestic off-spinner in their side. Chakravarthy may not have international experience but he has the variations to outfox quality batsmen as admitted by his former skipper, Ashwin.
