5 Young spinners to watch out for in CPL 2016

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has slowly emerged as one of the best platforms for young talented bowlers in the Islands to showcase their talent and gain some reputation. Despite some of the most explosive batsmen participating in the league, the bowlers have managed to maintain even balance in the contest between bat and ball. The inaugural season saw many young names do well in the limited opportunities they got. They have been quite innovative and put in extraordinary efforts to outclass their counterparts and hog the limelight. This year again will be their chance to shine. Here we throw some light on the 5 Young spinners who we expect to do well in CPL 2016. 1. Nikhil Dutta – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots: Nikhil Dutta of Canada pictured during a headshot session. His bowling style is very similar to Sunil Narine, his idol. Dutta is a right-arm off-spinner whose wicket taking delivery happens to the knuckle ball. He hogged the limelight after foxing Kevin Pietersen with his off-break last season. Since then he is a widely discussed name in the Canadian cricketing circle. The 21-year-old cricketer, who will be playing for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, aims to create his own identity in the T20 leagues all around the world. (Photo by Ashley Allen/LatinContent/Getty Images) Jonathan Foo is one of the few cricketers of Chinese descent playing cricket at the top level. The young all-rounder who hails from Berbice in Guyana region comes from the same region which produced the likes of Alvin Kallicharran and Rohan Kanhai. Foo was an unheard name until he emerged as one of the rising stars in the inaugural edition of CPL. He is yet to play for Guyana at the domestic level but his handy combination of explosive batting and more importantly his leg-break bowling will be very useful for his team this season. 3. The Chinaman bowler is currently on a high. Post CPL, Shamsi was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in this season’s IPL, playing four matches for them. This paved the way for his international debut for South Africa. The 26-year-old spinner is yet to gain a significant amount of international experience but knows the Caribbean conditions quite well. Akeal Hosein – Barbados Tridents: Akeal Hosein of Barbados Tridents. He has been a consistent performer at the Under-19 level for West Indie and Guyana. The last six first-class games have seen him claim 10 scalps at a decent economy rate of around 7 runs an over. So far in his short career, he has a tally of 27 wickets in 14 games. The last season he did not get any opportunity to bowl but considering the decent run of form he has experienced in recent time, Akeal can surely hope for some better opportunities with the ball. 5. He came into the limelight with his hat-trick against Barbados playing for Combined Campuses and Colleges in the Caribbean T20. Two years later, he debuted for Trinidad & Tobago Red Steels in 2015. This year he will be featuring for the St Lucia Zouks. The left-armm spinner, who ended with 7 wickets in 7 games last year, will hope for much better result with his new frachises this year.
