6 players who could be selected by India for the Sri Lanka series
With the draws being declared and promotions in full swing, the WorldT20 to be held India next year has started to generate excitement. The buzz will increase as we get closer to the highly anticipated mega event. However, there is a home series against Sri Lanka followed by the Asia Cup which the Men in Blue will use to prepare for the marquee event. Here’s a look at 6 players who could be considered by the selectors owing to their strong performances in domestic cricket.
1. Piyush Chawla:
Piyush Chawla had a splendid 2016 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for UP picking up 15 wickets at 13.86 in 9 matches. The leg-spinner bowled a brilliant spell in the final as well (0/16 from 4) that UP won and kept the pressure on the Baroda batsmen. His economy rate was 5.94 and his best spell of 4/28 was against Maharashtra in Cuttack. He was the joint second highest wicket-taker in the tourney. The experienced bowler played a major part for his team throughout the tourney. Chawla has been out of the national side since 2012 and will be eyeing a comeback. He has good control and variations, but can do with a bigger stock leg-break to make the other aspects of his bowling more effective.
