Bangladesh has made quick progress in the last few years to earn themselves a spot among top cricketing nations. After 14 years in International cricket, they became a Test-playing nation in 2000. Since the turn of the century, Bangladesh has also managed to defeat top teams and bettered their own performance in multi-nation tournaments. They have excelled in the ODI format and have won a good number of games at home in the last couple of years.

Here we look at the six major records that Bangladesh players hold in International cricket:

Nearly 22 months after that record for the highest individual Test score for Bangladesh was set, Mushfiqur took back the honour in style. The wicketkeeper-batsman ended unbeaten on 219 in the Dhaka Test match against Zimbabwe. Rahim, thus became the first wicketkeeper in the history of Test cricket to score two double hundreds. As many as seven other players have scored a Test double while playing as a keeper and only Mushfiqur has done it twice.

He needed only 54 matches for this double to break the record held by Ian Botham (55 Tests) that too on the former England player’s 63rd birthday during the recent Test match against the Windies.

The Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka is far from being an unbreakable fortress for the hosts but on the individual basis as it put several Bangladesh players on the top of various lists. With 3938 runs in International cricket at this venue, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/tamim-iqbal-is-targetting-windies-series-for-his-comeback/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Tamim Iqbal</strong></a> holds the record for scoring the most runs at a single venue.

Shakib Al Hasan (3900) and Mushfiqur Rahim (3566) follow the opener to take the 2nd and 3rd places. Tamim’s 2557 ODI runs in Mirpur are also the most for any player in ODI cricket at a venue. Shakib with 2377 runs and Mushfiqur with 2234 runs occupy 4th and 5th spots in this list at the moment.

He has 186 wickets across all formats to his name in Mirpur and is three wickets away from surpassing Muttiah Muralitharan’s record which he set with 188 International wickets at the SSC ground in Colombo. Shakib’s 112 ODI wickets are the 3rd most by any player in this format at a venue behind Wasim Akram’s 122 and Waqar Younis’ 114 wickets in Sharjah.

In the second innings of the game, Ashraful scored a magnificent 114 off 212 balls with 16 fours during his four-hour stay at the crease. It was a patient and rather fighting knock from the youngster understanding the need of the hour.

However, Ashraful couldn’t save Bangladesh from an innings defeat that too on the third day of the game. He was 17 years and 63 days old at that time, thus he became the youngest centurion in the history of Test cricket.

Ashraful thus broke the previous record held by Pakistan’s Mushtaq Mohammad who was 17 years and 82 days when he scored his maiden Test ton in the year 1961. Sachin Tendulkar closely missed out on this record as the first of his hundred international tons came at the age of 17 years and 112 days in 1990.

Mustafizur Rahman made an impressive start to his international career as the left-arm medium-pacer troubled the Indian team on debut and helped Bangladesh register their maiden series over the Indians. He claimed five wickets on debut and bettered his performance with six wickets in the next game.

On his Test debut a month later, Rahman bagged a four-fer to help Bangladesh gain a first innings lead. Unfortunately, the match and series ended up in a draw due to rain. He won the player of the match award on both ODI and Test debut and became the first such player in the history of the game.

He is till date the only player to win player of the match award on both ODI and Test debuts. Elias Sunny and Lungi Ngidi are the other two players to win the player of the match award on debut in two different formats. They won it on their respective Test and T20I debuts with Elias, also from Bangladesh being the first to achieve it.

In the recently concluded Chittagong Test against the Windies, off-spinner Nayeem Hasan made his Test debut. The 17-year-old ended up with figures of 5/61 in his maiden innings with the ball. Thus, he became the youngest player in Test history to claim a five-fer on debut.

With 3938 runs in International cricket at this venue, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/tamim-iqbal-is-targetting-windies-series-for-his-comeback/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Tamim Iqbal</strong></a> holds the record for scoring the most runs at a single venue.</p>
<p>Shakib Al Hasan (3900) and Mushfiqur Rahim (3566) follow the opener to take the 2nd and 3rd places. Tamim’s 2557 ODI runs in Mirpur are also the most for any player in ODI cricket at a venue. Shakib with 2377 runs and Mushfiqur with 2234 runs occupy 4th and 5th spots in this list at the moment.</p>
<p>He has 186 wickets across all formats to his name in Mirpur and is three wickets away from surpassing Muttiah Muralitharan’s record which he set with 188 International wickets at the SSC ground in Colombo. Shakib’s 112 ODI wickets are the 3rd most by any player in this format at a venue behind Wasim Akram’s 122 and Waqar Younis’ 114 wickets in Sharjah.</p>
<h3>4. Youngest Test centurion:</h3>

<p><a href="https://www.crictracker.com/tainted-mohammad-ashraful-omitted-from-bcl-draft/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Mohammad Ashraful</strong></a> made his Test debut in the 2001 Asian Test Championship against Sri Lanka. In the second innings of the game, Ashraful scored a magnificent 114 off 212 balls with 16 fours during his four-hour stay at the crease. It was a patient and rather fighting knock from the youngster understanding the need of the hour.</p>
<p>However, Ashraful couldn’t save Bangladesh from an innings defeat that too on the third day of the game. He was 17 years and 63 days old at that time, thus he became the youngest centurion in the history of Test cricket.</p>
<p>Ashraful thus broke the previous record held by Pakistan’s Mushtaq Mohammad who was 17 years and 82 days when he scored his maiden Test ton in the year 1961. Sachin Tendulkar closely missed out on this record as the first of his hundred international tons came at the age of 17 years and 112 days in 1990.</p>
<h3>5. The Fizz start:</h3>

<p>Mustafizur Rahman made an impressive start to his international career as the left-arm medium-pacer troubled the Indian team on debut and helped Bangladesh register their maiden series over the Indians. He claimed five wickets on debut and bettered his performance with six wickets in the next game.</p>
<p>On his Test debut a month later, Rahman bagged a four-fer to help Bangladesh gain a first innings lead. Unfortunately, the match and series ended up in a draw due to rain. He won the player of the match award on both ODI and Test debut and became the first such player in the history of the game.</p>
<p>He is till date the only player to win player of the match award on both ODI and Test debuts. Elias Sunny and Lungi Ngidi are the other two players to win the player of the match award on debut in two different formats. They won it on their respective Test and T20I debuts with Elias, also from Bangladesh being the first to achieve it.</p>

<p>In the recently concluded Chittagong Test against the Windies, off-spinner Nayeem Hasan made his Test debut. The 17-year-old ended up with figures of 5/61 in his maiden innings with the ball. Thus, he became the youngest player in Test history to claim a five-fer on debut.</p>
<p>Nayeem was 17 years and 356 days old when he completed his five-fer on the second day of the game. Australia’s Pat Cummins was the previous youngest to claim a 5-wicket haul on Test debut. He took 6/79 in South African’s 2nd innings on debut in the 2011 Test when he was 18 years and 196 days old.</p>
<p>Alongside the record for the youngest player to take a 5-fer on Test debut, the record for the youngest player to score a century on Test debut is also held by a Bangladesh player. Mohammad Ashraful is the youngest centurion in Test cricket at the age of 17 years and 63 days, scored on his debut only.</p>
