The third Test between India and Pakistan was played between 1st and 6th December 1989, at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Winning the toss, India under the leadership of Krishnamachari Srikkanth, elected to bat and put up 509 runs in their first innings, backed by a brilliant batting performance by Sanjay Manjrekar, who scored 218 runs off 401 deliveries with the help of 28 fours.

In reply, Pakistan put up a huge 699 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Javed Miandad, playing in his 100th Test match, came up with a well made 145 runs, being at the crease for 365 minutes, facing 289 deliveries, with 10 fours. He was also involved in a 246-run fourth-wicket partnership with Shoaib Mohammad (203) and this was the highest partnership in the match.
