The earliest known instance of batsman to do so is Michael Colin Cowdrey of England. He performed this feat in the third Test of the Ashes series 1968, which was played between 11th and 16th July 1968 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Cowdrey, leading England and playing in his 100th Test match, won the toss and opted to bat.

Opening the innings, John Edrich and Geoffrey Boycott put on an 80-run partnership for the first wicket, when Boycott was out ‘leg before’ to the Aussie leg-spinner, John Gleeson, after occupying the crease for 155 minutes, facing 148 deliveries and scoring 36 runs with the help of 3 fours.

Cowdrey walked in to join Edrich in the middle and the partnership between the two realised 108 runs for the second wicket. Edrich departed after a well made 88 runs, studded with 10 fours.

The third Test between India and Pakistan was played between 1st and 6th December 1989, at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Winning the toss, India under the leadership of Krishnamachari Srikkanth, elected to bat and put up 509 runs in their first innings, backed by a brilliant batting performance by Sanjay Manjrekar, who scored 218 runs off 401 deliveries with the help of 28 fours.

In reply, Pakistan put up a huge 699 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Javed Miandad, playing in his 100th Test match, came up with a well made 145 runs, being at the crease for 365 minutes, facing 289 deliveries, with 10 fours. He was also involved in a 246-run fourth-wicket partnership with Shoaib Mohammad (203) and this was the highest partnership in the match.

Playing in his 100th Test against England, played at Antigua Recreation Ground, St John’s, Antigua, between 12th and 16th April 1990, Gordon Greenidge, opening the innings along with Desmond Haynes (167), went on to score 149 runs with the help of 18 fours and 3 sixes, facing 207 deliveries. In the process, the duo put on 298 runs partnership for the first wicket.

As a result of this huge partnership, West Indies put up a mammoth total of 446 runs in their first innings and took a crucial lead of 186 runs over England. They were also successful in restricting England to 154 runs in their second innings and went on to win the match by an innings and 32 runs.

The 3rd Test match in the Wisden Trophy between England and West Indies, played between 3rd and 7th August 2000, at Old Trafford, Manchester, saw the England wicketkeeper-batsman, Alec Stewart, playing in his 100th Test match, notched up 105 runs (186m, 153b, 13 fours) in the first innings. This helped his team to put up a total of 303 runs in response to 157 runs scored by West Indies and take a lead of 146 runs.

In the process, he was also a part of a fourth-wicket partnership with Marcus Trescothick (66) which realised 179 runs in 44.03 overs. This partnership was the best for any wicket in this encounter.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, leading Pakistan and appeared in his 100th Test match in the third and final Test of the three-Test series against India, played between 24th and 28th March 2005, at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore went on to score 184 runs off 264 deliveries with 25 fours in the first innings.

In the process, Inzamam was involved in a partnership with Younis Khan (267) for the 3rd wicket that realised a mammoth 324 runs in 88.2 overs. This was the best partnership for any wicket in that match and helped Pakistan notch up 570 runs in their first innings. Taking a 121-run first innings lead, Pakistan eventually went on to win the match by 168 runs.

The third Test between Australia and South Africa, played between 2nd and 6th January 2006, at Sydney Cricket Ground, was also the 100th Test for the Aussie skipper, Ricky Ponting, who led from the front in the game and scored back-to-back centuries in both innings; he was instrumental in Australia registering an 8-wicket victory in the game.

Ponting’s score of 120 runs (257m, 174b, 12 fours, 1 six) in the first innings and his 130-run fourth-wicket partnership in 35.4 overs with Mike Hussey (45) helped Australia score 359 runs in the first innings in response to 451/9 decl by South Africa.

Requiring chasing 287 runs for a victory, the Aussies ended up scoring 288 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, at the back of a well-made 159-ball, unbeaten 143* by Ricky Ponting and he built another successful 182-run second wicket partnership with Mathew Hayden (90).

South African Graeme Smith, appearing in his 100th Test, in the match against England played between 19th and 23rd July 2012, at The Oval, scored 131 runs, facing 273 deliveries, with the help of 20 fours, occupying the crease for a little over six hours (367 minutes) in the first innings.

His partnership of 259 runs in 84.3 overs in the company of Hashim Amla (311*) for the second wicket and Amla’s unbroken partnership of 377* runs for the third-wicket along with Jacques Kallis (182*), helped South Africa amass a mammoth 637/2 decl, taking a lead of 252 runs. Restricting England to 240 runs in their second knock, South Africa went on to win the match by an innings and 12 runs.

<p>The third Test between India and Pakistan was played between 1st and 6th December 1989, at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Winning the toss, India under the leadership of Krishnamachari Srikkanth, elected to bat and put up 509 runs in their first innings, backed by a brilliant batting performance by Sanjay Manjrekar, who scored 218 runs off 401 deliveries with the help of 28 fours.</p>
<p>In reply, Pakistan put up a huge 699 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Javed Miandad, playing in his 100th Test match, came up with a well made 145 runs, being at the crease for 365 minutes, facing 289 deliveries, with 10 fours. He was also involved in a 246-run fourth-wicket partnership with Shoaib Mohammad (203) and this was the highest partnership in the match.</p>
<h4><strong>3. Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge, West Indies:</strong></h4>

<p>Playing in his 100th Test against England, played at Antigua Recreation Ground, St John’s, Antigua, between 12th and 16th April 1990, Gordon Greenidge, opening the innings along with Desmond Haynes (167), went on to score 149 runs with the help of 18 fours and 3 sixes, facing 207 deliveries. In the process, the duo put on 298 runs partnership for the first wicket.</p>
<p>As a result of this huge partnership, West Indies put up a mammoth total of 446 runs in their first innings and took a crucial lead of 186 runs over England. They were also successful in restricting England to 154 runs in their second innings and went on to win the match by an innings and 32 runs.</p>
<h4><strong>4. Alec James Stewart, England:</strong></h4>

<p>The 3rd Test match in the Wisden Trophy between England and West Indies, played between 3rd and 7th August 2000, at Old Trafford, Manchester, saw the England wicketkeeper-batsman, Alec Stewart, playing in his 100th Test match, notched up 105 runs (186m, 153b, 13 fours) in the first innings. This helped his team to put up a total of 303 runs in response to 157 runs scored by West Indies and take a lead of 146 runs.</p>
<p>In the process, he was also a part of a fourth-wicket partnership with Marcus Trescothick (66) which realised 179 runs in 44.03 overs. This partnership was the best for any wicket in this encounter.</p>
<h4><strong>5. Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan:</strong></h4>

<p>Inzamam-ul-Haq, leading Pakistan and appeared in his 100th Test match in the third and final Test of the three-Test series against India, played between 24th and 28th March 2005, at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore went on to score 184 runs off 264 deliveries with 25 fours in the first innings.</p>
<p>In the process, Inzamam was involved in a partnership with Younis Khan (267) for the 3rd wicket that realised a mammoth 324 runs in 88.2 overs. This was the best partnership for any wicket in that match and helped Pakistan notch up 570 runs in their first innings. Taking a 121-run first innings lead, Pakistan eventually went on to win the match by 168 runs.</p>
<h4><strong>6. Ricky Ponting, Australia:</strong></h4>

<p>The third Test between Australia and South Africa, played between 2nd and 6th January 2006, at Sydney Cricket Ground, was also the 100th Test for the Aussie skipper, Ricky Ponting, who led from the front in the game and scored back-to-back centuries in both innings; he was instrumental in Australia registering an 8-wicket victory in the game.</p>
<p>Ponting’s score of 120 runs (257m, 174b, 12 fours, 1 six) in the first innings and his 130-run fourth-wicket partnership in 35.4 overs with Mike Hussey (45) helped Australia score 359 runs in the first innings in response to 451/9 decl by South Africa.</p>
<p>Requiring chasing 287 runs for a victory, the Aussies ended up scoring 288 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, at the back of a well-made 159-ball, unbeaten 143* by Ricky Ponting and he built another successful 182-run second wicket partnership with Mathew Hayden (90).</p>
<p>Ponting is the only batsman to have scored twin centuries in his 100th Test. For his wonderful efforts with the bat, Ponting whas adjudged the Player of the Match.</p>
<h4><strong>7. Graeme Craig Smith, South Africa:</strong></h4>

<p>South African Graeme Smith, appearing in his 100th Test, in the match against England played between 19th and 23rd July 2012, at The Oval, scored 131 runs, facing 273 deliveries, with the help of 20 fours, occupying the crease for a little over six hours (367 minutes) in the first innings.</p>
<p>His partnership of 259 runs in 84.3 overs in the company of Hashim Amla (311*) for the second wicket and Amla’s unbroken partnership of 377* runs for the third-wicket along with Jacques Kallis (182*), helped South Africa amass a mammoth 637/2 decl, taking a lead of 252 runs. Restricting England to 240 runs in their second knock, South Africa went on to win the match by an innings and 12 runs.</p>
