The Australian spinner in Warne’s era came into the team at the wrong time. Stuart MacGill was one with the best strike rate. He delivered well in Warne’s absence becoming the leading wicket taker of the series against Pakistan. But Warne was the mainstream spinner of Australian side then, and the selectors didn’t approve of playing two spinners in Tests.

He excelled in county cricket and is one of the leading wicket takers. In the Super Series Test against the ICC World XI in 2006, MacGill out-bowled every spinner including Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan and Daniel Vettori. He could never be a prominent name in the Australian squad because of Warne’s presence as the frontline spinner.
