7 High profile players who failed in the World T20

The World T20 in India witnessed some incredible individual performances however also saw some top players failing to make an impact. There were huge expectations from these individuals to give their team’s the crucial edge but they failed to live up to the expectations and it certainly hurt their team’s chances on numerous occasions. Here’s a look at 7 high-profile players who failed to impress in the global event. 1. Dale Steyn: Dale Steyn of South Africa. The fast bowler had a poor outing against England and conceded 35 runs off his wicket-less 2 overs. He was dropped for the next 2 games and played against Sri Lanka delivering a 4-over spell of 1/33. His good record in T20 matches was the reason for his selection over Morne Morkel who wasn’t picked in the squad. Steyn looked out of sorts and couldn’t bowl as well as expected. 2. AB’s only substantial contribution came in a winning cause against the Afghans when he hammered 64 off 29 balls including 5 sixes. Other scores of 16, 10 in two important matches against England and Windies respectively didn’t do justice to his potential. A 20 not out against Sri Lanka in a dead rubber ended his team’s tournament on a winning note. 3. David Warner: David Waner. (Photo Source: Twitter) The dashing left-hander wasn’t asked to open the innings and it proved a huge blunder from the Australian team management. His 4 matches produced only 38 runs at an average of 9.50. Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell was unhappy with Warner batting in the middle order and his assessment proved right. The southpaw has been brilliant for Australia when he opens the innings and there seemed no need to change his batting position. How did the Australians fare in the tournament? – World T20 2016: Australia Player Ratings 4. The English captain was poor with the bat throughout the competition. His captaincy was good however he failed to impress when needed the most with the bat. A tournament haul of only three fours and three sixes was a dismal return for so gifted a player, and first-ballers against Afghanistan and New Zealand presaged a shaky 12-ball 5 in the final. England will hope for more runs from him in the future. 5. Suresh Raina: Suresh Raina. (Photo Source: BCCI) The southpaw had a horrible time batting in the middle order for India. His 4 innings produced just 41 runs at an average of 10.25 with strike-rate of 124.24. Considered as one of the finest batsmen in T20 cricket, his performances in the World T20 were disastrous. In the upcoming IPL season, Raina will have to score heavily if he were to hold onto his place in the national side. He was axed from the ODI squad in Australia and seems highly unlikely that he will return soon in the 50-over format for the country. 6. Rohit Sharma: Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma. In 5 matches he scored just 88 runs at an average of 17.60 and a strike rate of 107.31. This is definitely below par for a man of his ability. He made 43 off 31 balls in the semi-final defeat to West Indies but threw his wicket at a crucial juncture. Playing on his home ground and a batting paradise in Mumbai, Rohit was expected to make a bigger impact than he did. 7. His performances though didn’t make a happy reading and he has been criticized for his attitude. Against the Kiwis and the Aussies, Pakistan needed an attacking knock but Akmal couldn’t get on with the name. For someone who is known for his attacking batting and has a good T20 record, 78 runs from 4 innings at an average of 19.50 and a strike rate of 121.87 is indeed a poor return.
