In the last couple of years, India have produced quite a few young talented fast bowlers who could deliver at high speeds and Madhya Pradesh’s Avesh Khan is one the many. The 21-year-old pacer has impressed one and all in his short career with his pace and variations. In the 2018 IPL auctions, Avesh, with a base price of 20 Lakh INR was bought by Delhi Daredevils defeating Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in the bidding war for 70 Lakh INR.

Here are some of the lesser-known facts about the young fast bowler:

1. Playing Style and Career:

Avesh Khan is a right-arm medium-fast bowler and a right-handed batsman is well known for his off-cutter. His bowling was first spotted at the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association Trails when he was a 13-year-old.

2. Early start:

He started to feature for Madhya Pradesh’s Under-19 side from the age of 16. He bagged 15 wickets in the 2012/13 Vinoo Mankad Trophy which were the most after Kuldeep Yadav’s 20 wickets. His performances gained him to called for the India Under-19 team.

3. India Under-19 debut:

Avesh Khan made his India U19 debut in 2013/14 Youth Asia Cup at the age of 17. He was part of the U19 World Cup squad in the 2014 edition played in UAE but didn’t feature in the playing XI.

4. Record bowling figures in Youth ODI cricket:

Avesh Khan registered figures of 6-3-4-4 in a game against Bangladesh in the Tri-series in 2015/16. Only one bowler in Youth ODI history conceded four and fewer runs while taking a 4-wicket haul.

5. Leading wicket-taker in the U19 CWC:

Avesh got his chances in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup played in Bangladesh where he took 12 wickets in six games to finish as India’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament.

6. Debut for the senior side:

He made his first-class debut in the 2014/15 season in the Ranji Trophy a couple of days before his 19th birthday. He featured in eight FC games and six T20s till date.

7. First experience in the Indian Premier League:

Avesh Khan was signed up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore during the 2017 IPL season. He made his debut in his team’s last game of the season in which he recorded figures of 4-0-23-1 taking the wicket of Sanju Samson on the very 2nd ball he bowled.

8. Touring with the Indian Test team:

The 21-year-old got a chance to tour alongside the Indian team for the Test series in South Africa where he bowled to the Indian players in the nets.
