It took further 44 years before such an incident took place in Test cricket. England was again involved in the match but not certainly in the run-outs tragedy. It was Indian openers namely Vijay Merchant and Syed Mushtaq Ali who got run-out in the 1st innings of the 3rd Test match against England at the Oval in 1946. The Indian openers had got the side off to a decent start and they had put on 94 runs for the 1st wicket before a miscommunication between Ali and Merchant brought about Ali’s downfall. Later, Merchant also got run-out.
