The much-awaited rescheduled fifth and final Test between England and India commenced on Friday (July 1) at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The visitors missed their regular skipper Rohit Sharma as he couldn’t recover from COVID-19 and Jasprit Bumrah is leading the side at the moment. However, the toss didn’t go in India’s favour and the visitors were invited to bat first by England with an eye on picking early wickets.
The hosts didn’t get early wickets but managed to get breakthroughs at regular intervals. But the real blow turned out to be of former skipper Virat Kohli who was dismissed for just 11 runs after 19 deliveries. His dry run in international cricket, especially in Tests, continued despite looking assured for whatever time he spent in the middle.
Kohli was unsure about leaving an outside the off-stump delivery from Matthew Potts and ended up dragging one back onto his stumps. England were cock-a-hoop after getting the big fish and India were suddenly in trouble with not many on the board.
Virat Kohli’s poor run continues
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and the entire nation’s wait for his 71st international century continues with the man getting out for yet another low score. During the innings, he also got his average back to 50 but the fact that he got out has brought it to less than the magical number again. With the conditions being good for bowling, India’s batters will be tested and a decent first innings total will be important for them to restrict an aggressive English batting line-up.
Moreover, Virat Kohli‘s role in helping Jasprit Bumrah lead for the first time will also be crucial. Moreover, the 33-year-old will have to bat well in the second innings depending on the situation. Meanwhile, the fans were frustrated to see Kohli yet again lose his wicket early despite looking in good touch. The wait is only increasing for the fans and they hoped that the man makes amends in the second essay this time around.
Here’s how fans reacted:

Kohli has tried every medicine in his bank to get back into runs except for one.
He should just use Pant's approach. Just go for the kill from ball one@imVkohli #ENGvIND— Namanπ (@NamanShah2607) July 1, 2022
