Scotland crossed swords with England in a one-off ODI at Edinburgh and comfortably emerged triumphant by 6 runs. It was also their second victory versus a Test-playing nation after Zimbabwe. The team racked up a colossal score of 371 for the loss of 5 wickets, which was also their highest score in ODIs. Calum MacLeod decimated the English attack with a belligerent knock of 140 runs from 94 balls.
The right-hander smacked 12 boundaries and three sixes and stayed at the crease until the very end. His exhibition of stroke-play ensured that the visitors had to carve their highest ever run chase in ODIs, which Eoin Morgan’s men eventually couldn’t. To multiply MacLeod’s delight, he will now head to play for Derbyshire in this summer’s T20 Blast as per reports in ESPN Cricinfo.
“Calum is a powerful striker”- Barnett on MacLeod
Meanwhile, the Derbyshire cricket management is delighted to get the swashbuckling batsman in their ranks. “We’re delighted to be working with Cricket Scotland and to have Calum, Safyaan and Grant on board for our Vitality Blast campaign,” Kim Barnet, Derbyshire’s Cricket Advisor, mentioned.
The team will be under John Wright and bowling mentor Dominic Cork. Grant Bradburn, a former New Zealand international also joined the franchise. He has also been the head coach of Scotland since April 2014. To add to Derbyshire’s delight, MacLeod will be available to play for them for the entire event, alongside Safyaan Sharif.
“Calum is a powerful striker and only yesterday showed what he can do on the big stage. He offers further depth to our squad, alongside Safyaan, for what is a busy month of cricket. I would like to extend my thanks to Grant and Cricket Scotland for supporting this new partnership, and we hope it can help all parties,” the director added.
