A discussion was done with Virat Kohli, Shastri and Dravid prior to squad announcement
He also didn’t rule out the possibility of those excluded to make a comeback
Alongside the announcement of the Indian squads, the selectors even named India A side for the four-day games. They are scheduled to play the England Lions as well as the West Indies-A in the UK. Karun Nair who was included in the one-off Test against Afghanistan was named the captain for the UK tour.
The meeting also included chairman of selection committee MK Prasad and India A coach Rahul Dravid. The likes of Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw were also included in the squad. Prasad stated that the team had been discussed with the leadership of the Indian team and also didn’t rule out the possibility of those excluded to make a comeback.
We had a meeting with Kohli and Shastri
Prasad stated that there was a meeting with Indian skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri. It was following discussions with them that the squads were announced. He asserted that Shami, Saha and Vijay were expected to join the squad from the third game for the A team and thereby stay for the Test tour.
“We did discuss it. We had a meeting with Virat and Ravi Shastri and also Dravid. Some of the Test specialists like Wriddhiman Saha, Murali Vijay and Mohammed Shami. They will join us for the third India-A game. From there they will go and play against Essex and continue with the Test team.” He was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Ashwin-Jadeja still stand a chance of coming back
Ever since the Champions Trophy where the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja was disappointing, they’ve been kept away from the limited-overs internationals. When asked if they stood a chance of returning, he agreed alongside highlighting how well Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have bowled
“When they were excluded from the side, we made it very clear that two to three youngsters are being given an opportunity. It makes sense to give them a long rope. If you see the number of wickets, Chahal-Kuldeep has taken in the last year or so, it’s very heartening. And they have kept on improving game after game. It makes sense to continue with them when they are winning games for us at home and abroad.”
