A fan asks Brad Hogg to pick a better batsman between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam; spinner has an apt response
'That's putting me in a dangerous territory' - said Brad Hogg before proceeding with his response.
Ever since his International debut, Babar Azam has taken long strides in the world of cricket. The elegant right-handed batsman from Pakistan has grown from strength to strength as a batsman in the past few years. Comparison with Virat Kohli has become a common thing for Babar Azam now. The young Pakistani batsman has often being credited as Pakistan’s answer to India’s Kohli.
Recently a fan asked former Australian leg spinner Brad Hogg who he thinks is better. Hogg who has been very active on social media in recent times has often shared his views on cricket. He has always been vocal about his opinions but this time around, decided to take a diplomatic approach while answering this question.
The Australian was having a question and answer session with his fans on Twitter. During this interaction, a fan from Pakistan asked him who he thinks is better, Kohli or Babar. “@Brad_Hogg how about Babar or Kohli? Who’s better?” the tweet read.
That’s putting me in dangerous territory, says Brad Hogg
Brad Hogg tried to dodge away from the question by giving a very diplomatic answer. According to the veteran, both the players lead the way for their own country. He also stated that it would be a great sight to watch both the players play on the same field during one great Test match. He also called Kohli, the senior while Babar Azam, the junior.
“That’s Putting me in Dangerous territory. Who is it? Both lead the way for there country. It will be a great Test Match when you can watch both of them play on the same field together. Let’s appreciate the best at work. Kohli the senior Babar the junior,” the 49-year-old tweeted.
Brad Hogg’s desire to watch both the top batsmen playing in a single Test could be a far fetched dream looking at the ties between India and Pakistan. The two sides have not played a Test match against each other since 2007.
Babar Azam has been a revolutionary considering the batting records of players in the recent past. The 25-year-old averages 45 in Test format, 54 in ODIs and close to 51 in T20Is. The record is just not staggering but also astonishing. If Babar eventually crosses the average of 50 in Tests, he would join Virat Kohli in the elite list of players with a 50-plus average in all three formats. Currently, the Indian captain is the only person on that list.
