A fan calls KXIP's Jimmy Neesham overpaid cricketer; he gives an apt response
Neesham hasn't performed to the expectations so far in IPL 2020.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) are striving hard to finish at the fourth position in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Punjab, led by KL Rahul, had a forgettable start in the tournament as they were placed at the bottom of the points table with just one win from seven games. However, the franchise is all set to change its fortune and is on a roll with four consecutive wins against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
They are now at the fifth spot with 10 points and are very much in contention to make it to the playoffs. Though KXIP is on a winning spree and seemed to have regained their form, there are some players in their camp who are still battling with their poor form. One among them is New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham.
The all-rounder had last played in the 2014 edition where he had ended up as the poor performer for the franchise Delhi Daredevils (Now Delhi Capitals). In his debut season, Neesham could score only 42 runs from 4 games at an average of 14 and strike rate of 91.42. He was also expensive with the ball as he gave away 91 runs in his 12 overs at an economy rate of 10.11.
Jimmy Neesham hits back at the troller
Despite making a comeback in the IPL after 7 years, Jimmy Neesham couldn’t capitalise on the opportunities provided to him. In 4 matches he played, the all-rounder could score only 17 runs in two innings at a strike rate 113.33. Also, he took 2 wickets while giving 122 runs in his 12 overs at an economy of 10.16 and average of 61.00.
The poor form of Kiwi all-rounder didn’t go well with the fans and he was on the receiving end of trolls on social media. A Twitter user advised Jimmy Neesham to focus on the game and also called him an overpaid cricketer. Notably, he was picked by KXIP for IPL 2020 at a base price of INR 50 lakhs.
The user wrote. “Stick to cricket. We don’t need your entitled opinion on the world. Overpaid celebrity hitting a cricket ball. Remember the world cup final when you bombed in the super over?” Taking note of his tweet, Neesham responded saying, “Yeah that bomb was pretty good. About 20 rows back from my memory.”
