India’s limited-overs opener and deputy captain Rohit Sharma once again made the news, but not because he had nonchalantly smashed yet another double hundred in a game of cricket. Rohit was shown some serious admiration during a Vijay Hazare Trophy game when a fan breached security to go and meet him. He not only met Hitman but also touched his feet and even kissed him.
As expected, the photograph of this superfan kissing Rohit went viral, and his wife Ritika Sajdeh took to social media to poke fun at the incident which involved her husband. Using Instagram, Ritika wrote to Rohit’s India teammate Yuzvendra Chahal, “You and I both have competitions”.
The incident took place during the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-finals where Rohit’s side Mumbai took on Bihar. The game was held at Bengaluru’s Just Cricket Academy Ground. Rohit was drafted into the Mumbai side especially for the knockout stage, prior to India’s ODI series against the Windies which gets underway on October 21.
What was Yuzvendra Chahal’s response?
After having received Ritika Sajdeh’s message, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal replied, “Bhabhi yeah kya ho raha hai, yeah kya ho raha hai”, which translates to “What is happening?”
Meanwhile, Rohit remained unbeaten on 33*, leading Mumbai to an easy victory over Bihar. Mumbai were set a target of just 70, which they were able to chase down comfortably inside 13 overs. The side is hence through to the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Earlier, Rohit successfully led the Indian team to a seventh Asia Cup triumph. While skipper Virat Kohli was rested after a hectic tour of England, Rohit took up captaincy duties and led from the front during the tournament.
Recently, Virat Kohli himself faced a similar situation during the Test series between India and the Windies. A fan jumped over the fence to run into the ground and kiss Kohli during the Hyderabad Test. India were clinical in the series, winning the first Test in Rajkot by an innings and 272 runs, while clinching a 10 wicket victory in Hyderabad to complete a 2-0 whitewash over the Windies.
Sharma will make a comeback to the Indian team for the ODI and T20I series against the Windies.
