The whole country, on Tuesday, woke up to the news of Indian Air Force’s pre-dawn airstrike at Pakistan in response to the February 14 suicide bombing in Pulwama. The ghastly attack had claimed the lives of 44 CRPF personnel, sending the nation into utter shock. The attack was carried out by Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-E-Mohammad. And it did not take long to make Pakistan realize their mistake.

In the wee hours on Tuesday, the Indian Air Force carried out air strikes across the LoC. According to media reports, the strikes involving several fighter jets of the Indian Air Force successfully destroyed camps belonging to Pakistan-based terror outfits in Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Ever since the news became public, the Indian mass has been busy lauding the Air Force for their bravery. The cricketers have not remained far behind. After standing with the general public during the tough hours, the cricketing fraternity is now busy praising the security forces for their act. World Cup-winning star Suresh Raina also joined the bandwagon. The Indian batsman took to Twitter to hail the Indian Air Force, writing, “My salute to #IAF for showing great courage in the face of adversity. A fitting reply to cowardice! #JaiHind”

Cricketing ties affected

With Pakistan showing no signs of stopping cross-border terrorism, the cricketing ties have been further worsened between the two nations. The bilateral ties have already been suspended and the recent turn of events mean the resumption of rivalry on the field is unlikely in recent times. Both the teams had last played a bilateral series way back in 2012. Since then, the two teams have only played in ICC tournaments.

But if recent turn of events is anything to go by then the BCCI is keen to avoid Pakistan in ICC tournaments too. Recently, there were calls to boycott Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup. A final decision on the matter will be taken soon by the Indian government and the BCCI.
