Many overseas and the Indian players would be recurring to perform and display their individual talents in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The young guns would be eyeing a successful and golden run in the global Twenty20 tournament to cement their spot in their respective national squads.
One such impactful and stylish talent is Australia’s D’Arcy Short, who was procured by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 4 crores in the auction. He would be certainly hoping for a longer rope in his international career, following a great season for the Royals this year.
D’Arcy Short states the importance of good stints in T20 Leagues
Short recently made his debut for the Australian T20I side in the Trans-Tasmanian tri-series, after emerging as the top run-scorer in the recent edition of the Big Bash League. The left-hander was also the third highest run-getter in the tri-nation contest, in which he scored 196 runs which were his maiden series at the international stage.
In a recent conversation, the Aussie batsman mentioned that a good performance in the upcoming IPL can certainly help him to establish his place in the national side. He also mentioned the learnings and knowledge which he regularly gains from his mentor and former Australian cricketer Justin Langer.
“After my last BBL stint, I was given a T20 call-up. I was over the moon. The taste of international cricket is what every cricketer desires. Playing for your country in all formats, especially Tests, gives you the ultimate satisfaction. I need to use all the chances I get from now on and leave an impression. Doing well in IPL can certainly give a push to my career. I have learned a lot from my mentor Justin Langer and would keep discussing with him what all I need to do,” said Short in his recent interview to Hindustan Times.

The Australian southpaw batsman would be making his debut in the IPL for the Royals, where he would be led by Australian skipper Steve Smith and mentored by another former Australian legend Shane Warne. Short revealed that it would be great to play under a world-class cricketer like his RR skipper Smith. The 27-year old also noted that Warne’s presence in the Royals dressing room could prove to be a vital factor for a great season in this year’s IPL.
“It would be superb to have Steve as captain of the team. He is a world-class cricketer and a brilliant captain. He has played a lot of cricket till date and gathered loads of experience. I won’t shy away from asking him anything. As far as Shane Warne is concerned, he is an intelligent customer. He is a legend and his presence in the dressing room can do wonders. IPL would give a new curve to me. I am also excited to play alongside Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes,” further added the Aussie opener.
