Indian team was on the cusp of history when they needed only 38 runs with 7 wickets left in the WWC 2017 Final against England. But the Indian batters wilted under pressure and collapsed to lose last 7 wickets for just 28 runs. It was a heartbreak in the end but Mithali Raj‘s troops’ performance throughout the campaign has earned them many plaudits.
BCCI would try to fix up a meeting with PM
According to reports, BCCI is planning to organise a grand ceremony for the women in blue. According to a BCCI official, they would try to fix a meeting of the team with the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The official told PTI that the team has made the country proud and they deserve to be felicitated.
“They lost the final but made the nation proud with their performance. The BCCI will organize a felicitation for the team and we are also trying to fix up a meeting with Prime Minister Modi,” the official told.
BCCI thinking about women’s IPL
The official further said that BCCI might try to cash in on the surge in the interest in the women’s cricket. He said that BCCI might try to build on the world cup gains by starting women’s IPL. In turn, this tournament will help Indian team to prepare for World T20 next year.
“There is a feeling that the surge in popularity of the women’s game should be cashed in on. One way to build on the World Cup gains is by having a women’s IPL. “The focus now should immediately turn to the World T20 next year,” the official added.
Indian team might have failed to lift the world cup this time, but their performances have caught the eye of the nation. The administrators won’t leave any stone unturned to cash on this new interest in the sport.
