'A pleasure to captain him' - Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah congratulate Parthiv Patel for a remarkable cricket career

Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel decided to bring down curtains to his remarkable cricket career of 18 years as he announced his retirement from all formats of the game. Though he didn’t get many chances to don the blue jersey in his interrupted cricket career, he made sure to make his mark in whatever matches he played.

The wicketkeeper has stunning domestic records to his name as they speak volumes about his capabilities or skills in the game. Parthiv featured in 194 First-class games scoring a massive 11,240 runs at a remarkable average of 43.4. He also has 5172 List A runs to his name in 193 fixtures along with 4300 runs in 204 T20.

As the cricketer decided to bid adieu to the gentleman’s game, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) paid a tribute to Parthiv for his services to the Indian team. BCCI officials including president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah reflected on Ahmedabad-born’s journey in cricket.

Speaking about Parthiv, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah asserted that the cricketer has played his game with passion and has inspired many youngsters with his contribution to the domestic circuit. Parthiv had led his domestic team Gujarat to their maiden Ranji Trophy victory in the 2016-17 edition.

“Parthiv Patel has always played his cricket with passion. While he played some hard-fought cricket for the Indian team, his contribution in Domestic Cricket shall inspire future cricketers. It was a tremendous feat to lead Gujarat to a maiden Ranji Trophy triumph in the 2016-17 season, a testimony to his astute leadership qualities,” said Jay Shah as quoted by Bangalore Mirror.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly also heaped praises on the wicketkeeper-batsman for being an ambassador for Indian cricket. He also lauded the Southpaw for his exemplary records in domestic cricket. Notably, Parthiv had made his debut in 2002 under Ganguly.

“Parthiv has been a brilliant ambassador for Indian cricket. He has always been a team man and it was a pleasure to Captain him when he made his international debut at the age of seventeen. His hard work has earned him laurels in international and domestic cricket,” stated Ganguly.
