'A prayer in unity does make a difference'- Indian cricketers unite with the nation in light-off exercise in fight against COVID-19

Amid Coronavirus outbreak, Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister asked the citizens of the country to switch off all the lights of their houses on 5th of April at 9 pm in the evening. Moreover, he requested everyone to light candles, diyas or torch lights to show their unity against the novel virus. So, the cricketing fraternity including the likes of Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and many more came forward to implement the light-off exercise.

The novel Coronavirus has taken several lives across the globe. The things have gone from bad to worse with no vaccine available for the same at the moment. After a sudden increase in death, the government of different nations announced lockdown in their country including India. On 24th of March, Indian Prime Minister enforced lockdown in the nation until April 14.

Cricketing fraternity joins hands with Narendra Modi in ‘light-off’ exercise

Earlier on 22nd of March, Modi had requested the Indian citizens to come out and make noise with any sort of thing to show that they are united in such alarming conditions. It was done to appreciate the work of medical, nurses and the other frontline workers in the battle against the novel coronavirus.

Now, when the Indian Prime Minister urged every single individual to light diya, candles or torches to illuminate the purpose that country is fighting back against Coronavirus with unity. So cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma came forward in light off exercise.

Sachin Tendulkar took to his Twitter handle and shared a still with his family. He also gave a caption to the same that read, “My family & I thank the selfless #SanitationWarriors cleaning our surroundings & hospitals, disinfecting affected areas & thus keeping the virus at bay. Let’s also reignite our pledge to take care of our elders, the most vulnerable – by ensuring their physical & mental wellness.”

He was followed by Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who also took to Twitter and shared a snap with his wife Anushka Sharma and said,” A prayer in unity does make a difference. Pray for every being and stand together.” Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh also shared this moment with the fans on Instagram.
