Karn Sharma has been pushed to a corner after a brief stint with the national team. The leg-spinner recently made a switch from Railways to Vidarbha in the domestic circuit. However, he has failed to get many chances. The 30-year-old made the opportunities count claiming 14 wickets in the four matches he played.
However, that hasn’t bogged him down. Karn indeed thrives to get even better with his craft. Vidarbha made it to the final of the Ranji Trophy for the first time on the back of the entire team’s inspiring effort and are currently in a position where they can defeat Delhi and lift the title. The fact that the team is doing well pleases the veteran despite the fact that he is on the sidelines.
All I can do is play and perform
“Cricket is a team sport, if somebody is doing well, he will play. I don’t have any problem with that because the team is doing well. That’s a bit disappointing but if given a chance I would have tried to do well. The team comes first,” he was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
The leggie was left outside the team against Delhi for the final. When asked if it was a bit unfair to him, Karn took it in his stride.
“Those things are not in my hands. All I can do is play and perform. That’s all I can do. It’s there at the back of the mind but I want to keep things simple,” he said.
He admitted that he had failed to meet expectations. However, also promised to give his best when given a chance.
“I don’t have an answer. I could have done better but then opportunities come and go. I could not do it that time. Whenever I get a chance, I will do well. There’s nothing negative about it, but yes, even I know I could not do it as per expectations. There’s a bit of pain,” the leg-spinner stated.
Ruing injury as a spoilsport, Karn is focused to keep the present scenario in mind. He is confident of paving his way back into the Indian team.
