Australia and India are currently playing the second match of the two-Test series at the new Perth Stadium. Initially, a green-top was dished out for the visiting team and hence, Virat Kohli and Co went in with an all-pace attack and included Umesh Yadav in the fast—bowling department, which already had the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma.
After Australia put on 326 in their first innings, India strained a bit, but captain Kohli weathered the storm and scored his 25th Test century. The 30-year-old went on to score 123 from 257 balls with 13 boundaries and a six. Fast bowler Pat Cummins nipped out him as Peter Handscomb took a controversial catch in the slip cordon after the batter went for an ambitious drive.
Virat Kohli- a vital cog
In Australia’s second innings, Tim Paine and Usman Khawaja played out the entire pre-lunch session on the fourth day. However, right-arm speedster Mohammed Shami dished out some incredible deliveries, that climbed on to the batsmen, who had very little clue about the thunderbolts. Occasionally, the ball also kept low. Paine got out to a rather unplayable delivery.
The stand of 33 runs between Nathan Lyon and number 11 Josh Hazlewood added to India’s frustration in the middle. The Aussies set India a rather daunting target of 287 in the fourth innings. In the meantime, after how the pitch behaved, Kohli didn’t take a break during the innings break. He spent the entire break of 20 minutes, sweating in the nets.
Kohli would have been aware that he needs to contribute in a big way if India are to challenge the mammoth target. Former Indian cricketer and current commentator Aakash Chopra updated about the same. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Kohli spent 20 mins of the tea-break in the nets…having a hit. #AusvInd #7cricket @7Cricket @1116sen,”
