India and Pakistan have stopped playing in the bilateral series thanks to the political tensions between the two countries. They last locked horns at the highest level in the final of the Champions Trophy last year which the Men in Green won handsomely. After more than a year, the two teams will be seen playing against each other in the Asia Cup on September 19 and the former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has called for the resumption of bilateral ties between them.

Since the 2012-13 season, India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series which has kept the fans away from witnessing an enticing contest. The Men in Blue last visited their country in 2006 and Pakistan toured India back in 2012 after which they are only playing either in ICC events or Asia Cup since then.

Chopra gives his opinion

The schedule for the Asia Cup was revealed on Tuesday as India and Pakistan are set to play twice at least in the tournament. There is also a possibility of them playing in the final which depends on the way the two teams fare in the competition. Aakash Chopra, however, was thrilled to know that they will lock horns after a long gap.

In the video which he posted on his official Twitter handle, he believed that the bilateral ties between them should resume now as the fans are missing the on-field contest. “#Pakistan is the top-ranked T20I team in the world. #India is 2nd. One relies on its bowling while the other has a formidable batting lineup. Why don’t we see these two T20I powerhouses take on each other more often?” he captioned the video with this message.

He also went on to say that the rivalry between India and Pakistan is much better than the Ashes which is played between Australia and England. The much-awaited encounter will be the battle between the strong bowling of Pakistan and the exceptional Indian batsmen with the fans bracing up for yet another edge of the seat thriller.
